Always included in an oil change at FixCarNow is our complete sixteen point safety check. Along with including a new oil filter and 5 quarts of Castrol GTX or Castol Syntec oil, our ASE certified technicians will check and fill brake, battery, coolant, transmission, power steering and window washer fluid. The condition of your air filter, belts, hoses, suspension and wiper blades will be checked. Your tires and pressure will be checked and filled if necessary. They will lube the chassis. If during the safety check, any cracks, leaks or wear and tear is detected, our mechanics will let you know and recommend any repairs or replacements you may need.
There is an ongoing debate about how frequently automobile owners need to have their engine’s oil changed. Suggestions range from 3000 to 15000 mile intervals – a huge difference in mileage. Your manual may suggest one interval, your mechanic another interval, a fellow Mercedes owner another, and your neighbor still another interval. While today’s oils – regular and synthetic – are designed to allow your engine to run longer intervals between oil changes, it doesn’t change the fact that oil picks up debris and particulates as it ages. This starts immediately after an oil change. These particles cause engine wear and contribute to the breakdown and wear of other systems in your Mercedes. Oil loses viscosity as it ages as well – the ability to lubricate the engine. Changing the oil more frequently keeps the circulating oil cleaner, prevents viscosity breakdown and helps maintain a longer engine and system life.
Choosing regular or synthetic oil is a personal choice. Studies have shown little if any difference between the two types of oil. There is some debate as to whether or not older cars should use regular oil to prevent leaks, but again the choice is a personal one. If you have any questions, feel free to talk to one of our technicians and get the scoop directly.
