The temperate weather in Southern California is one of the main reasons many of us choose to live here. While most of our days throughout the year in Culver City are ‘windows down and fresh air’ days, there are those occasional days when you need a little heat or cold air in your car. While your car’s air conditioning or heating system may be something you don’t often think about, there will be those rare days when you may need heat or cold air. If your air conditioning and heating system isn’t working as it should, stop by Fixcarnow and let our technicians take a look at your heating and cooling systems.
Your air conditioning and heating system should be serviced yearly to keep both systems functioning effectively. You should also run both of your systems for a few minutes weekly to keep them lubricating and functioning as they should. If you haven’t been keeping up with your annual service, your system may be in need of repair. If you are having your car’s oil changed regularly (and you should be!) our technicians will always check and fill the coolant fluid as part of the service. Noticing that coolant level is dropping more frequently than it should will alert our mechanics to a potential problem with your system so please do not delay your oil changes or heating/cooling maintenance.
A complete maintenance includes checks of air vent, suction line and condenser temperature, as well as inspection of system lines, valves, thermostats, hoses and components. Drive belts and pulleys are tested and adjusted, condenser fins are cleaned, and the system is evacuated and sanitized. Additionally, the technicians at Fixcarnow will replace the Schraeder valves and the receiver drier filter. Lastly, our technicians will perform a leak detection test, add oil to the system and recharge with the proper refrigerant.
If your heat or AC is not working, the first step is to check the coolant level. The coolant does double duty, as it both cools and heats your vehicle. Another potential issue is a clogged valve. If the valve is clogged, the coolant will be unable to circulate and cool or heat the vehicle properly. Since it is easy for debris to clog the valve, this is a common occurrence. A more serious issue can occur if the heater core or hoses are leaking. A leak is generally signified by a sweet sugary smell. If you notice this, please stop by Fixcarnow immediately for an inspection as this heated coolant is highly toxic.
